Many people who want to travel between Bucharest will be impressed by the beauty and history of this unique city. Bucharest, the capital of Romania, was founded on the bank of the Dâmbovița, a tributary of the Danube, in the middle of the Romanian plain. The city, the commercial center of Romania, has around 2 million inhabitants. In Bucharest, a heavily planned city, there is no housing problem. Although there are works that indicate that it is a very old settlement, the name Bucharest is found in documents from 1459. Vlad Tepeş, who ascended the throne for three terms between 1448 and 1476, left the Bucharest Castle erected to protect the Wallachian state and the then capital Tirgovishte from Ottoman attacks. After a month of war, Wallachia became an Ottoman province. After the merger of the Wallachian and Moldavian principalities, Bucharest was declared the capital. As a result of the Ottoman-Russian wars of 1877-1878, Romania was completely separated from the Ottoman Empire. Bucharest airline tickets are among the most frequently booked international flights.
From the airport to the city center
People who buy a Bucharest plane ticket to Bucharest can easily reach the city after their trip is complete. There are two airports in Bucharest. One of them is Henri Coandă International Airport, formerly Otopeni Airport, and the other is Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, known as Baneasa.
Otopeni Airport, 17 kilometers from Bucharest, is the largest airport in Bucharest. Otopeni, the busiest airport in Romania and the first that comes to mind when mentioning Bucharest Airport, has been used for civil aviation since 1965. The airport, which receives around 5 million passengers annually, was used as a military airport during World War II. From 2004 the airport was renamed after the Romanian aircraft engineer Henri Coandă. Transportation to the airport is provided by buses, trains, and taxis. It is also possible to rent a car at the airport.
The transport takes place from Otopeni airport to the north train station with the express line 780 and to Bucharest with the express line 783. These buses run day and night every 40 minutes. With martiGO you can compare flight prices and find the most suitable Bucharest flight ticket for you.
The Hendi Coandă Express train line, which connects the airport with the city, will take you to Gara de Nord in 30 minutes. To reach the railway line, it is possible to take a shuttle vehicle to the train station, which is 2 km from the airport. The shuttle fee is also included in the paid train fee. When you get to Gara de Nord train station, you can reach any point in the city by metro and buses. The train line runs between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. at night.
It is also possible to reach the city by taxis that are located outside the terminal. As of June 2016, a fixed fee will be charged for the taxis that collect passengers from the airport due to the inflated prices.
